Mucha S. Koehling the effects of ill healthAlfons Maria Mucha (24 7 1860 14 6 1939) is geboren in Tsjechi. Zijn werken zijn onlosmakelijk verbonden met de Jugendstil stijl, populair aan het begin van de twintigste eeuw. In 1887 vertrok Mucha uit zijn geboorteland naar het toenmalige broeinest van de kunst: Parijs. Zeven jaar later, in 1894 brak hij door met een affiche voor het toneelstuk Gismonde, met de Franse actrice Sarah Bernhardt in de hoofdrol. Zij was de ster van het Parijse theater.
